Point to point - Step by step
Hey guys, ok so.. I'm currently trying to get my head round the WAN of this world. Basicly, I think what i need most is just a bit of theory on the whole thing. If someone could provide me with a rough step by step of when a packet leaves a destination, to when a packet arrives at a destination I'd be so very greatfull!
E.G Step 1 - Sam is sitting in his house with his new BT broadband. He has a standard wireless adsl router connected to his isp. Step 2 - Sam sends a packet of info to a remote host Step 3 - Packet goes through router and determines wether address is on local or remote subnet step 4 - router determines packet is for remote destination and.... Which device does the packet now enter? (in a typical environment, i know it varies). So yea, i guess the process of how a packet travels through the devices of an ISP would be extremly helpfull. Thanks!! |

Re: Point to point - Step by step
Hey Cellus, haha no it's not. Im just used to examples like this as im studying for various MCP's so when i have questions i tend to stick to the same guidelines. Im actually trying to self teach myself through packet tracer, and It was going well untill i came to the point where i needed to connect office a in one city to office b in another!

Re: Point to point - Step by step
Or if someone could point me in the right direction? I know a fair bit about internal/external routing protocols, I've configured RIP etc but really I've never been taught any of the theory. Just a simple diagram or step by step as to how everythings layed out would be fantastic.
