Networking on Linksys wireless router
XP sp2 new Linksys wireless router WRT54G V8 Linksys tech support was no help.
One wireless laptop and one wired desktop. Both PC's have internet connection but effectively can't see each other. Only laptop can see desktop but can't see file folders. Have fully shared all folders on each. used Ms help and scanned network setup for errors. reported "IP failed" on desktop. Questions: Do all network names have to be the same? i.e. in wireless setup (setup a wireless network for a home or small office) and (Setup a home or small office network) for both. Do both of these wizards have to be run? Wireless setup and wired on Laptop and wired only on desktop PC. Have done all of that but just checking. Running ipconfig on both PC's shows the same as below except for the last 3 digits of the ip address for one of the PC's is 100 and the other is 101. The router/gateway address is correct. Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 1: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : vs.shawcable.net IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1 I'm stumped! Thanks for your help. jim@kope.ca |

Re: Networking on Linksys wireless router
Let's see this for each of the machines.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following two commands, one at a time, followed by the Enter key: NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
