[SOLVED] Router Reset: Bad Failure

After setting up a static IP address, I saw that a few programs weren't working properly. Also, the internet connection was extremely slow, running 60kbps when it is usually 768kbps - 1MBps. I was advised by a few sites and friends to reset the router, so I did. Then nothing worked. My computer displayed the LAN connection as "Connected at 100.00 MBps" as normal, but the internet browsers, instant messengers, and other internet based programs didn't work. I'm not exactly sure now if this is a router/hardware problem or a computer/software problem. What is going on? Thanks.

Re: Router Reset: Bad Failure

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Router Reset: Bad Failure

What country are you located in: US
Name of your ISP: Verizon
Make and exact model of the broadband modem: No modem, just router connected to phone and Ethernet cable connected to computer.
Make and exact model of the router: Westell Versalink W327 Model #: B90-327W15-06

Connection type, wired or wireless: Wired

Make and model of your computer: Dimension 4600, Dell
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines: XP-Home SP2.
The Internet Browser in use: Firefox, tested IE and that failed too.

Symptoms:

I cannot do anything related to the internet except find out the network addresses (it is set back to a Static IP again to see if it changed anything- it did not). I get the standard "server not found" or "page is unreachable" in the browsers. Other than that, I don't get any error messages on my computer regarding the connection. The connection APPEARS to be there, except I can't use it.

I am currently on a friend's computer at a different apartment so I'll need to go back and do what you said there and then paste it after. I shouldn't be so long in getting this information. I need to go back to my apartment now. Thanks.

Re: Router Reset: Bad Failure

Well, it looks like the router is connected properly to the computer, so I'd guess your ISP is probably down. Is the connect or data light on on the router?

Re: Router Reset: Bad Failure

Oh thanks for your help, but I fixed it. It was the ISP not having my registration information. I didn't know that the router reset deleted administration and registration information. So I had to reinstall the stuff for that, and it works fine.
