Re: Major Internet Connection Problem (not even ISP wants to help!)
Hmm........First I recommend uninstalling the network card drivers and then installing them again. If this doesn't work then run your anti-virus and anti-spyware programs again to make sure your computer is really cleaned up from any anomalies.
If that doesn't work then I recommend performing a windows repair on your computer and see if that fixes the issue. Is your cpu wired or wireless? |

Re: Major Internet Connection Problem (not even ISP wants to help!)
Let's start with some real information about the environment.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please. What country are you located in. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms? If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally? On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following commands: PING 216.109.112.135 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Major Internet Connection Problem (not even ISP wants to help!)
My antivirus does not find any viruses.
Canada ISP - Shaw Modem - Motorola - SB5102 *No Router* connection - wired CPU - Intel Pentium 4 - ACPI Multiprocessor PC Windows XP home edition 2002 IE Problem: when i first start my computer, i get a message from EMule saying a UDP socket error. (i dont even have EMule in my computer) my local area network usually says "Limited or no connectivity" when i try the repair option, it goes directly to an error stating that it could not renew the IP adress. LATELY, whenever i connect the modem to the computer, the local area connection says Aquiring Network adress, but doesnt stop, it just continues to try and never stops. when i try the repair option, the same message appears saying: Windows could not finish repairing he problem because the following action could not be completed: Renewing your IP address for assistance, contact the person who manages your network. (i contacted my network, and they basically said it isnt their problem) when i diagnose connection problems in IE it tells me i have to restart my computer to fix the problem, even though when i restart it, nothing is fixed. I connected a laptop to the modem, and it works fine. so it ISNT the modem or the internet connection OR anything with the cables. Re: Major Internet Connection Problem (not even ISP wants to help!)
Do a Google search on "XP repairing tcpip"
If you can't ping, then something may be corrupted in the tcpip arena. There are some freeware programs that assist in repairing a corrupted tcpip installation Last edited by texas666; 03-28-2008 at 07:42 AM. Reason: add info |

Re: Major Internet Connection Problem (not even ISP wants to help!)
No need to use "freeware" applications here, XP-SP2 has a built-in utility to repair the TCP/IP stack and WINSOCK.
TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the machine.

Re: Major Internet Connection Problem (not even ISP wants to help!)
the netsh interface ip reset resetlog.txt worked, i think, but when i typed the netsh winsock reset command, an error popped up. when i was talking to my ISP on the phone they told me to go into
cmd regedit> and from there, finding the winsock registrys and deleting them. ??? when i did this, the first winsock entry disappeared, and now there is only winsock2 |

Re: Major Internet Connection Problem (not even ISP wants to help!)
The link I just posted for you talked about installing MS support tools from the XP cd so I went through that procedure myself and followed their steps. That netsh winsock reset should have worked so if you got an error message, let's go from there and post it here.

Re: Major Internet Connection Problem (not even ISP wants to help!)
I never heard of a file called a455hjhh.sys, and it sure isn't a file that is standard in any version of Windows!
I'd be wondering about hardware issues at this point. Try running one of these memory tests for a couple of hours, ANY failures are a problem. Microsoft Memory Diagnostic MEMtest86

Re: Major Internet Connection Problem (not even ISP wants to help!)
well for some reason, i cant get either of those programs to work.
But, i have managed to get my internet back! i dont know exactly what caused it, but I did have an old version of McAfee that i couldnt uninstall/ i downloaded an updated version of McAfee, and then uninstalled it. It automatically got rid of the program. so my computer works, but it freezes, and is a lot slower. |
