Hope somebody can help me out
![]() I have recently been given a Netgear Wireless router (the white one supplied when you sign up for Sky Broadband). I gather I need to flash the router firmware to be able to use it with other BB supplier (im with Tiscali), but have a few queries: 1) Does anyone know the model of this Sky supplied router? as i've seen two different models mentioned when lookin online (DG834g & DG934g). 2) I know i need a wireless adaptor but does it have to be a Netgear adaptor or can I use any make that's 802.11g compliant adaptor? 3) finally, is there any particular advantages to using either pci card or USB adptors? (apart from the obvious that the usb can be removed easily and used on other computers) This is my first steps into wireless networking (or even networking in general) and would really appreciate some help from someone with the knowledge ![]() Cheers |

Re: Wireless virgin needs help!!!
there should be a model somewhere on the router. You need to make sure you flash with the proper firmware otherwise, you will have a new paperweight.
Go pci is faster and easer to work with.

Re: Wireless virgin needs help!!!
I don't like USB for any networking tasks. You may be able to use that router, but a lot of those ISP supplied boxes are locked to the supplier. I have a closet full of Vonage VoIP adapters that only work with Vonage.

Re: Wireless virgin needs help!!!
You can use any 802.11g compliant adapter. I have a variety of routers and adapters in my network, they all play together.
