need something to monitor pc...
well i finaly caught it, my roomate was the one who got a nasty virus on my computer, but now i need a way to 'watch' what hes doing on my pc while im in class (mainly screenshots.... or monitor web site addresses) i looked on google and came up with people saying 'keyloggers' and 'desktop spying' (taking screenshots every X amount of time....)
so i googled it found a few but every single one i tried to download came up as a trojn virus! any ideas would help... im looking for something to 1: monitor sites accessed 2: take screenshots and all this has to be done WITHOUT my roommate knowing (im not an *** and will tell him he cant use it...... mainly because hes a buddy of mine, but still if i know the sites hes going to i can at least block them) |

Re: need something to monitor pc...
The keyloggers, and screencaptures are basically trojans, they both are collecting data. If you feel unsafe using them, you could always tell your roommate to buy his own computer then share the Internet connection.

Re: need something to monitor pc...
How about a nice secure password on the BIOS and Windows to keep him from using it at all.

Re: need something to monitor pc...
just go into your bios and click on the security section. It should be self explainatory from there. However if you setup a ubuntu password at startup and dont tell your roomate the password, then you should be okay, unless he uses a linux live cd :-)

Re: need something to monitor pc...
The BIOS password will stop him unless he opens the machine and resets the CMOS parameters. Obviously, you would know that by the fact that the password no longer worked or wasn't present. Then you kick his butt around the room for a few minutes.
![]() If this is a laptop, then a BIOS password is quite secure, they can't be easily reset as a theft prevention measure.
