networking possibilities

Hi,

I have a desktop connected wirelessly to internet via router on XP.
I am buying a wireless laptop on Vista.

I wanted to use the laptop as a kind of "walking mirror" of the dekstop. I want to be able to turn both laptop and desktop on and for them to automatically synchronise so that they both contain the SAME files within pre-defined folders (eg. My Documents, Music Folders).

However, I DO NOT want to allow the laptop to connect to the internet via the dekstop. I want this as a purely file exchange network. I hav included a picture to help illustrate.

I want to do this for a few reasons:
1 - work on files away from desktop when desktop is switched off
2 - access the internet on laptop when desktop is switched on

Any advise? Is this possible and if so how do I go about it? Can you think of any security issues?

Re: networking possibilities

These programs seem to be able to do the actual syncing but not the network connections. It is these that I am stuck on really. Can the laptop and desktop be wirelessly networked (for file transfer) at the same time as networked to the router?

Re: networking possibilities

You can have multiple application connections active on a single link. I don't understand your issue, since I've used various sync applications over my wired and wireless network here. They don't have to do "network connections".
