File Sharing with XP
hello people, thanks for reading, maybe you can help me out,
OK, so here is the skinny on whats up with my computers: 3 machines, all desktops 2 with winxp pro, 1 with winxp home 2 wireless, 1 hard wired I shared the "shared folder" on each comp, disabled windows firewalls on all of them, allowed the ports 445, 135-139 TCP & UDP on each computers firewall. Enabled NetBIOS on all of the computers. set the workgroup on all of them. Everything is Fine and Dandy. happy file sharing around the network. then, out of nowhere it seems, my computer cannot browse the network shares, "Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. contact the admin of this server to find out if you have access permissions. the list of servers for this workgroup is currently unavailable." (note, I AM the admin) but the other computers can still "view workgroup computers" and see all three in the explorer window and I'm screwed out of the picture now. sorry to beg, but PLEASE HELP, I've read up and down forums, and can't seem to get it back. Any advice or tips will be humbly accepted. Thank you for your time in reading my long post.

Re: File Sharing with XP
Using the "My Network Places" will have you pulling your hair out all day. Instead of browsing that way, just goto your run statement and type in the computers names that you want to access like "\\computername". It's a lot easier and faster although you don't get the dumbed down workgroup map that hardly ever works right.

Re: File Sharing with XP
This doesn't work either, I just get an error saying that It can't find it, and to check my spelling. Now I know they all are pinging right, but when I "NET VIEW" i get "system error 6118" "list of servers for workgroup is un-available"

Re: File Sharing with XP
Check your Services are Started on all PCs:
Note: You can check the services in Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services. All of these services should be started, and their startup type should be automatic (or perhaps manual).
