Hello all, this is my first post on the forum. I'm currently using Windows Xp Home, with service pack two. My I.E. worked fine until i updated to the newest version. Now I'm getting a DNS Error.
I'm currently using a Linksys Router. I Can NOT Connect Via IP Adress. I Can NOT Connect Via Domain Name. Tried " netsh winsock reset catalog " & " netsh int ip reset reset.log " Mozilla Firefox does not work. "Cannot connect to server." Every post i seem to see says they can connect via I.P. yet i cant. So i cant seem to find help for my issue. I'm running on Embarq DSL. I have reset my modem many times. Same issue with or without the router in the network. My Laptop which uses IE 6 Still works fine, however it is my Girlfriends p.c. which i handed down to her, when i traded up. ![]() Thanks for the help, this is really bothering me. |

Re: Another DNS Issue.
Perhaps some real information might help here.
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please. What country are you located in. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally? On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following commands: PING 216.109.112.135 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Another DNS Issue.
You can ping Internet sites by name, so there is no DNS issue here.
I'd have to believe you have a firewall or other security software product that's blocking the requests. Try booting in safe mode with networking and see if that resolves the connection issue.

Re: Another DNS Issue.
I checked all my firewall and local connection settings. Nothing is set to block anything. Firewall is even off and wont work. Safe mode with networking does work however. And once i did that I'm able to open my homepage on I.E. in normal mode. However anywhere i try to go from there "Cannot be displayed." So..
Safemode + Networking = Works Fine Normal Mode = Nope. |

Re: Another DNS Issue.
Obviously, something that is loading in normal mode is the problem.
Next step is to start disabling groups of startup items and rebooting. Use MSCONFIG for the task.
