My Network Location says "The Internet" insted of "Local Network"!!
Recently, I have added a 4th PC to my Home Network. However, when I open "My Network Places" on this PC to view my network, under "Network Location" It says "The Internet". The other 3 PCs they all say "Local Network". Does this mean that somewhere on the Internet my shared files are visible to others?
I know that right after this PC was added to my home network, my kids were trying to set up this PC so that they could play their one PC game on-line with their friends? Does this have anything to do with the fact that instead of "Local Network" It says 'The Internet"? My Wireless Network (Router) has a WEP key and is secured. But, is it possible that my kids somehow have placed our home network on the Internet? Can I undo what has been Done? If any? Should I take this PC off of our Home Network and then add it again? If yes, I only know how to add a PC to the network. I do not know how to take this PC off of our Network? Can you wlk me through the steps. Thanks. |

No, this is just a cosmetic bug, I can't find my reference how to fix this. Have you tried to simply remove those entries from Network Places?

Re: My Network Location says "The Internet" insted of "Local Network"!!
This problem is related to an IE7 setting as weird as that may seem. I have seen it several times but can't say for sure if the network location of "internet" interferes with the functionality of the LAN. Regardless, here's the fix: go to control panel/internet connections/security. Under the security tab, highlight "local intranet" and then click on "sites". In the window that opens untick the "automatically detect intranet networks" box and that will take care of the problem. When you check your network after you have done this, it should show "local" network. The reason I say it is related to IE7 is that the "automatically detect intranet networks" box only appears on systems with IE7, or at least that has been my experience.
