Wireless USB Adapter can't connect to the internet
Hi, I have a wireless USB adapter, and i connected to a wireless network with a low signal. The speed was 108mbps. About 14000 packets were sent and 700 received. The signal strength was low (2 bars). Are you still able to connect to the internet that way? When I open Internet Explorer, it asks me to connect, so I do, typing in my username + password. It says connecting to WAN (PPPOE) then an error message pops up saying remote computer did not respond. Error 678.
I created a new connection from the network connections window and I named my connection Broadband connection. I did not place a service name inside the text box. Oh, a password for the router was not set. I do not know the brand of my router or my Internet Service Provider. I already tried the netsh command, to no avail. Why can't i connect to the internet? Am I really connected to the internet or just to the router? Last edited by zijin_cheng; 03-09-2008 at 03:39 PM. |

Re: Wireless USB Adapter can't connect to the internet
My guess would be that you shouldn't be piggybacking other peoples wireless connections. Just because you are on a wireless network doesn't mean that you can get to the internet. Connecting to a wireless network means that you have connected to another wireless device. It could be a computer-to-computer wireless network where someone has the wireless on their computer running, but they aren't sharing an internet connection. It could be that you have found a wireless connection at a local store that is utilized for wireless inventory sytems, but has no Internet connectivity. It could also be that there is a proxy server in the way that is refusing to allow you on the internet.
