Changing MAC address....
Ok heres the situation. I work in the IT dept as a developer. Small office, about 30 users, company as a whole 300 users. Our outgoing and incoming connections to the internet are govervned by a server running ISA.
Now a little while ago the desicion was taken to lock down the companies internet access as people were running p2p software and caning the network slowing it down. Now as it turned out certain members of the IT department have been made exempt from this rule. As the network control is a bit shoddy I logged onto the ISA server and had a look at the rules set there. Me and a few others, 4 in total out of an IT dept of 30 are disallowed from this. Also, 6 people actually have rules for dedicated ports, and I am not talking about managers and stuff here either. Now I have complained but its all a bit political. Now, I could just remove myself from the rule and go back to downloading p2p (I only do it to grab a few albums here or there just to keep myself sane), but the rather anal network admin guy will notice. So.....I know how to change my MAC address, I know the MAC address of one of the people who have a dedicated port, they are leaving on friday. Now all I want to know, if I change my MAC address to his and try to spoof his machine...what would happen? Is changing MAC addresses a huge deal? Would my computer melt? Would the network melt? What would be the expected result of this? |
