Workgroup reseting on restart

Hey guys

Ok, i got a compaq presario tower, and ive been having networking troubles ever since i got it. The main problem is the one im trying to fix at the moment which im guessing will probably fix eveerything.

I've been trying to change the workgroup to a different one to get everything the same on all my PC's. Im trying to do it on my presario (running XP Home) and every time i change it, it will stay the same till i reset it, then it reverts back to the old one. Is there anything anyone can think of that might be doing this?? I still have some of the Compaq software on my tower and im using Zonealarm as antivirs/spyware/firewall if that helps?

Thanks!

Re: Workgroup reseting on restart

Let's do the simple fix first.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

Re: Workgroup reseting on restart

I suspect you have a security application monitoring for configuration changes, and it's setting them back to the previous setting. Try booting in safe mode with networking and see if the change sticks.
