No Consistent Connection
Hello, I have a Verizon Wireless DSL Router/Modem connected to my computer in my livingroom. I also have another computer in the family room which is currently using a wireless pci adapter card. I can normally get a good reception to surf the internet but when I try to play my favorite online game, internet poker, I am constantly being disconnected from the internet. It is really frustrating waiting for it to reconnect. I am about 50 feet from the other computer. My question is, would it be possible or feasible to connect a Cat-5 cable to the two computers to improve my connection, or do you have a better suggestion that would do the trick. I am using Windows XP on both computers. Thank you.

Re: No Consistent Connection
Does both computer experience the same problem or just one? You can try like you said to connect the computer via hardwired to the network and see if the problem disappears when you try to play a game.

Re: No Consistent Connection
The front computer works fine because the kids play with the playstation. What I would like to know is if hardwiring the two computers 50 feet apart is o.k. to do without losing dsl strength. Thanks.

Re: No Consistent Connection
You can run a CAT5 cable up to 300 feet with no signal degradation. Obviously, you'd be connecting to the router, not the other computer.
What's the make/model of the router?

Re: No Consistent Connection
Hello, The wireless modem/router that I am using is a Verizon ActionTec Model GT704WG. If going wired will prevent me from losing my connection, I will definitely consider it. Thanks again.

Re: No Consistent Connection
If you have other computers running with no issues on the same router, and your wireless connection is dropping, I'd rate it at 99% that a wired connection will solve the connection drops.
![]() FWIW, the only wireless stuff I have is my laptops, and that's just for portability. I have a couple of wireless cards in machines, but they're almost always wired to the network. Even the laptops are wired when I am doing maintenance or backups to the network.
