Cant get internet through Modem, only through router

I unhooked my computer from the router and hooked the cable modem directly into my computer and I cant get internet to work, any ideas?

this makes absolutely no sense
internet works perfect when through router
i have a netgear
aadwen is offline

It makes a lot of sense:

right click on my network places, select properties

right click on Local Area Connection and select properites


In the list box, select TCP/IP from the list box and hit properites.

Make sure that the "obtain IP address automatically" radio button is clicked.

If it is not, click that and you should be able to connect to the modem.

Let us know if that fixes the problem.

And . . when you switch between the router and modem, power cyle the modem by turning if and the PC off ( or unplug ) for a few minutes, then turn it back on . . then turn on the pc
