Problem Connecting to Internet...Please Help
Hey Everyone,
Ok I’m having a problem connecting to the internet and here's the thing: I have connected my modem and have recently reinstalled Windows on my PC, I followed the installation guide through my ISP CD, when the software on the CD tries to reset my DHCP (By connecting to the provider), it takes a few minutes then come up with a ‘failure’ message, the software then advises me to go back to the previous step to make sure all the connections and wires have been set up properly. Now on the network options screen I tried connecting my modem using ‘Windows wizard’ but I get a ‘Limited status or no connectivity’ message, with the usual exclamation box on the computers icon on the bottom left of my screen. What annoying is that, when I put the same RG45 cable, from my modem, into the back of my laptop, it works fine, don’t need to do anything, the internet runs. I have also compared the settings of my Laptop and my PC, both are identical. Software on my: PC: Windows XP SP2 Laptop: Windows XP SP2 Version 2002 Can someone please help me, its so annoying. Thanks. |

Re: Problem Connecting to Internet...Please Help
Did you cycle power on the modem when you changed the attached device?
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please. What country are you located in. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following commands: PING 216.109.112.135 PING yahoo.com NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Problem Connecting to Internet...Please Help
Diagnosis:
1. DHCP Service not running. Ok All the settings are correct and in line with what you said. 2. Duplicate IP address on the network. Tried this, made no difference, 3. Bad NIC card drivers. Updated the drivers with the latest version, made no difference. Still cannot connect. 4. Defective NIC hardware. There's is no problem with the NIC hardware, I was able to connect to the internet via the same Card prior to my Windows XP re installation. Im getting the same error messages (As stated above) when I try to connect through 'Local Area Connection' (Limited connection) and through the IP Software ('Check the cables are in correctly'). Any other suggestions? Thanks John. |

Re: Problem Connecting to Internet...Please Help
I assume there was no change in the problem?
Since the drivers you're using have never worked, are you SURE they're the correct drivers?

Re: Problem Connecting to Internet...Please Help
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc
Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed? Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?
