Extending wireless signal
We have two office locations, one on the 8th floor and one on the 5th floor of a building. We have the entire 8th floor covered by Cisco access points 802.11b/g. However, on the 5th floor we are not allowed to establish our own network due to security issues of the other tenants on that floor.
What is the best way to send the signal from the 8th floor to the 5th floor? Is there any hardware that can route the signal on the outside of the building with a receiver on the 5th floor? Please advice! This is quite urgent and important. Many thanks! |

Re: Extending wireless signal
Security issues of the other tenants? what does that mean. You can't install anything there or your wireless signal can't go into there
You could install a switch at 8th floor, pull the cable down from 8th to the 5th floor and walla... OR you could apply for another internet line at the 5th floor |

Re: Extending wireless signal
We can't install anything on the 5th floor. They won't even allow us to pull a cable to that floor? They can't do anything though if our signal on the 8th floor happens to reach that floor, which is why I'm looking at that option.
Has anyone had experience using stronger omnidirectional antennas on their access points? |

Re: Extending wireless signal
This will be dependent on the construction of the building, but I think I'd be leaning on the landlord. It's hardly realistic to prevent a tenant from using networking at all in their offices, did anyone tell them that it's 2008? Who the hell is on that floor, the CIA?

Re: Extending wireless signal
If they are tenants who are renting the place, they dun have the right to stop you. Refer to the landlord...
All high rise buildings have a common and same place where all telephone wires pass through... i think it is called the riser room. If 6th and seven floor allows that, you can drop the cable through the place where all telephone cables pass through.. |
