2 comps unable to connect simultaneously to internet through hub
Hi,
I have a cable internet connection that connects two computers to the internet through a hub, but for some reason, neither computer will recognize the network, and only one computer is able to connect to the internet at once. Both computers are able to connect to the internet through the hub, but not at the same time (Depending on which computer establishes a connection first, the other pops up a "Limited or no connectivity" message. Does anyone know what the problem might be or what steps I might try to fix it? Both computers are running Windows XP and have been updated fully using Windows Update, and I have run the Windows Networking Wizard on both. I've tried clicking the "Repair" button in the Local Area Connection status window, but it is unable to fix the problem. The device manager shows the following under Network Adapters: Comp 1: 1394 Net Adapter CNet PRO 200WL PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Comp 2: Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC The ethernet hub I am using is a Netgear Ethernet Hub (Model EN 104TP) Thank you for any help! -Raymond |

Re: 2 comps unable to connect simultaneously to internet through hub
Yep, this is normal operation. Your ISP obviously only grants you a single public IP address, so the first computer to connect gets it. A broadband router is the solution to the problem, not a hub.
