Network OS instalation
hi...
i am having a laptop(p-3)with 20gbHDD and 256mbRAM, and also a computer(p-4)with 120gb HDD and 512mbRAM and now i am having problem with my laptop and i would like to format the OS in my laptop.the problem is in my laptop my cd-rom is not working,and i decided to install OS(windows xp) from my computer ,and i got the cross over cable then i connected and boot my laptop and selected the option to boot from lan,then it gave the message as "NO proxy or DHCp server is received"and it bot from the HDD. now how i boot from my lan? plz help me.... |

You can't just boot from the LAN, there has to be a server on the other end that serves up the boot images. Of course, you also have to have the boot images generated for the environment in question too.
I think you need to get the optical drive working or replace it.

For sure replacing the optical drive would end your problem. The thing with laptops is that optical drives are a bit pricey. If you know how to do it yourself then checkout www.impactcomputers.com and purchase the drive through this website.

Many (but not all) laptop optical drives are generic and there are replacements that will fit. Most will remove with a single screw and simply slide out of the case.
