Re: Local Area Connection "X"ed out...
Hi I have the same problem, or at least similar. My Desktop was working with a cabled / wired connection to my router (which is a proprietary router sent to me by my ISP). For no known reason when I booted up today the Local Area Connection has come up X'd out with message 'a network cable is unplugged'. I have done an IPCONFIG and the following are the results;
Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : antonio Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcast IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected Description . . . . . . . . . . . : SiS 900 PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-11-5B-63-36-8D I have checked the network connections TCP/IP properties and both the following are selected # Select Obtain an IP address automatically. # Select Obtain DNS server address automatically. however I am still unable to connect to the internet. Can you help? I hope it is ok for me to piggy back my query onto this one as it is similar. Btw the O/S for the PC in question is XP Home. Last edited by brando269 : 02-12-2008 at 10:19 AM. |

Re: Local Area Connection "X"ed out...
Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.
I've created a new thread for your issue here. Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you. Thanks for your cooperation.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
What country are you located in. Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit). Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.
