Is there a universal wireless network adapter?

I'm looking for a wireless network adapter that will work with any wireless network, or just a/g and b 802.11 networks. It seems all the ones I can find only work with the wireless router they are for- Netgear, Linksys, D-link, US Robotics, etc

But the one in my laptop is built in and can connect to any of these. We need a new faster router and my desktop will need a new adapter for it.

Re: Is there a universal wireless network adapter?

Actually, most any 802.11n adapter should work with 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11n networks.

Remember, many manufacturer's have designed in "turbo" modes that are not part of any wireless standard, those are specific to individual manufacturer's hardware. If you stick with the standards, they'll operate across brands fine. I have a mix of brands of equipment, and all of it connects to my two 802.11n routers.

We just got a D-link DGL4500 router. Hopefully this one won't lag when I play online games and my brother games on his X-box at the same time, after he hooks up to the ethernet port on it.
