wireless adapter not working

Hi I have bought a wireless adapter for my laptop so that I can run two computers. I have a netgear router which uses a WPA key. When I try to connect with the new wireless adapter it asks for a WEP key which I don't have, so it is not letting me connect, what can I do???

Re: wireless adapter not working

Does the wireless card documentation say that it supports WPA? Or have you checked out all the options in the wireless network properties (in XP this is accessed via Wireless Network Connection proerties -> Wireless Networks tab -> Properties button -> Network Authentication) to see if WPA is supported?

If not, you may need to do a firmware upgrade. Firmware upgrades are usually available via the manufacturer.

Re: wireless adapter not working

It would help if you told the make/model of the wireless router and the wireless adapter. The version of the software drivers for the wireless adapter and the version and patch level of Windows is important also.
