[SOLVED] Unable to see other workgroup members
I am a very experienced user, and encountered a preplexing problem:
This is a thinkpad T42, WinXP SP2 and up to date on all windows patches. Trend Micro antivirus - no firewall. The strange part is that all the following are true (confirmed many times - after rebooting, checking etc)
Just prior to this anomaly, my communication drivers disappeared and I had to reinstall the IBM/Lenovo Access Connections which provides drivers and additional configuration tools for the network. I have not yet uninstalled it, and am hoping to see if anyone has any suggestions GeorgeM |

Re: Unable to see other workgroup members
You can ping by name everywhere?
Have you tried safe mode with networking to see if it's something that's being loaded in normal mode? No offense, but I'd like to look at the following results myself. ![]() Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following two commands: NBTSTAT -n IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Actually the problem was resolved more simply.
I noticed two extra filters in my configuration of the LAN connection TVT and AGN packet filters. TVT - think pad vantage technologies AGN - AT&T Global Network Both are some kind of "uncontrolled" firewall type filter provided as part of communication packages that I use occasionally. I uninstalled them and voila' - every thing works smooth as silk. God - what a pain. Since they are not controlled, it is not possible to monitor or disable their features. I still don't understand why only certain operations were disabled - probably just a side effect of partial packet filtering. |

Re: Unable to see other workgroup members
That's the kind of data we were looking for.
