New Modem/Router wont connect to the internet.

So last week sometime our first router suddenly.. erm.. died is the only word for it.

so I bought a Belkin Wireless Modem/Router complete with 4 Ethernet ports.

So hey, it came today and I hooked it all up, I first hooked it into my BT Voyager Modem/Router and hooked BT into Belkin in the same setup as the BT and our first router.

It didnt work :/
so I hooked the DSL wire right into the ADSL port on the Belkin and it just cant connect to the internet.
Its routing but it just aint connecting to the internet.

the Telephone icon keeps flashing but the other light with a globe on it (im guessing internet) will flash periodically but never stay on and no computer connected to the Belkin (wired or wireless) can get on the net.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Re: New Modem/Router wont connect to the internet.

I'm a little confused as to your setup.

It sounds like you're saying..

You had a router that broke.

The router that broke used to be connected to the BT Voyager Modem

You got a new modem/router to replace the broken one

the new one is called a Belkin.

You plugged the Belkin into the BT Voyager like the old router used to be

if that is the case then right now you basically have a modem connected to a modem, as you stated yourself that the BT Voyager is a modem/router and that the new Belkin is also a modem/router.

I'm fairly certain that kind of setup just won't work. If your BT Voyager modem has router capabilities why do you need another one?

Re: New Modem/Router wont connect to the internet.

That sounds about right Bisque

on the internet i didnt know the Belkin was a Modem Router i read it was just a router w/ wireless

the BT Voyager has only got 1 Ethernet and 1 USB
i used to plug it into a Dynamode 10/100 8port Switch

I just bought another switch and plugged it into, and now it works
