Cascading: Using the approved dsl router as a gateway only.
Hello,
This is my first post on this forum. I have an all-in internet connection including a voip phone. The phone is connected to the voip output on the router. Usually everything is fine but the router supplied by the ISP is briddled and it does not allow me port forwarding as I require. So I thought using the supplied router as a gateway for DSL and Voip, deactivating the DHCP in some way, and using my Linksys WRT54G with DHCP and wireless to do the rest. Is it also possible to use the network part of the original router as a switch? Thank you. |

I'd forget the "extra" uses for the VoIP router.
Configure your WRT54G into the DMZ of the first router, and just use the Linksys for all the other computer stuff. BTW, what does "briddled" mean?

Thank you,
Briddled means not allowed by its actual firmware, put in there by the ISP, to perform as it would with the original standard firmware of the router. If I upgrade the firmware I should lose the VOIP provided by the ISP. |

Do you really want to get rid of their VoIP service?

Re: Cascading: Using the approved dsl router as a gateway only.
Have you tried putting their VoIP router behind your wireless router? That's the way I used the Vonage service for years.
