Xp shuts down network card and such after 15 or so minutes of inactivity.
Hello.
I have a bit of a dillema. Windows XP pro for some reason shuts down the RX function of any internet activity, and in this case DSL. Tried two NIC cards, removed all av and firewalls. When first booting the system everything (XP once loaded) works wonderfull and fast. However if one leave the system idle (even with either firefox, msn, skype running) for about 10-15 minutes. The computer stops all RX (incomming) activity. Rebooting does nothing untill one deactivates theNIC connection and resets (power up/down) the dsl modem (any dsl modem). Then once one reboots it's back to normal. This also happens when one is chatting in text on MSN or even just typing a letter in wordpad. Reset the bios/cmos, removed all software from the startup. The NIC config " allow xp to power down the nic card" is deactivated. This problem is also making the power up (loading XP) very slow. Reg cleaned, hijackthis cleaned, windows FW deactivated, e.t.c. The only thing left i have not tried is a full test of the phone line. However the NIC card interacts with the modem and pings do go out. Even tried a "keep connection alive" ping software. Any ideas please? Last edited by Coby : 01-30-2008 at 07:28 PM. |
