Hey guys,
A customer of mine wanted to upgrade his motherboard, processor, memory and graphics card. He also wanted me to put a wireless G card in his system so he could connect to his wireless network and not have to run a cable. I upgraded everything and did a repair install of windows xp. The first wireless card I tried was a Dlink wireless G I think it was a DWL-515 or something. I could not get it to connect to my wireless network at the shop. I reset all the settings on the router, Turned off authentication. Gave the computer a static IP (which it would then say its connected but would not go on the internet and the router said it had an IP of 0.0.0.0) I tried repairing winsock, I checked tcp/ip and DNS settings and checked netbios settings. I tried disabling everything running in windows and even tried safemode. No matter what it just connects and says "limited or no connectivity". I thought maybe its just my router acting up so I took it to my customers house where he uses telus dsl with the wireless build in to the modem. I could not get it to connect there either. Same thing. So now I thought it was a faulty card so I replace it with a linksys wireless G card, and same thing limited or no connectivity. I am completely stumped! Im desperate..... |

Re: I am completely stumped with wireless....
k so I checked,
dhcp service is running linksys wireless utility will connect to the access point but cannot get an I.P address (limited or no connectivity) using windows wireless connect it does the same thing. Its funny because I had it connect one time yesterday after removing and reinstalling the hardware but as soon as I restarted same thing no connection. |

Re: I am completely stumped with wireless....
okay.. so its not fixed yet...
it seems that if I remove the hardware in device manager and reinstall it it will connect... but then as soon as I restart the system It will only connect with limited or not connectivity. so it will not get an ip.. so I have to uninstall it again and reinstall.. I have tried 3 different wireless network cards so this must be something in windows causing this. |

Re: I am completely stumped with wireless....
I have been troubleshooting all night and heres what I got. Im almost out of ideas so if anyone has anymore ideas please let me know this is very frustrating:
1. took out linksys wireless G card and replaced it with linksys wireless N card. Limited or no connectivity unless I press repair connection, then it gets an IP and can access the internet. This lead me to believe I had a second defective card but... 2.when I put the wireless G card in my other computer at first it did the same thing "limited or no connectivity" I changed my router settings to b and g only and the card would connect to the router and get an IP. This in theory made me think it was my router the whole time, so I took the card out and put it back in the original computer but same thing "limited or no connectivity" SO... the wireless G card will work in desktop 2 but not desktop 1 the wireless N card works in desktop 2 and desktop 1 but with desktop 1 I have to repair the connection to get an IP address. I am so frustrated you dont even know. |
