[SOLVED] Cannot Access One SPECIFIC Website
Hi everyone!
So, the problem is this - as of lunchtime yesterday none of the computers in the house can access any of the pages connected with the site - www.freewebs.com One computer runs vista, one runs XP, and neither work - also neither Firefox or IE (on either computer) will load in the site. I've tried to ping and tracert freewebs, but all I get is "Unable to resolve target system name www.freewebs.com". But we can get to other sites online, and I've asked some online friends to go and check out the sites and they all seem to be working fine for them. Extra added problem - freewebs is the host of our email and personal sites, so we can't change or alter anything until this is resolved! Any help would be most appreciated :) Thanks JLKS |

Re: Cannot Access One SPECIFIC Website
Let's try replacing your DNS server. Follow the instructions at OpenDNS for Windows and configure to use OpenDNS for your DNS server. See if that makes a difference.

Re: Cannot Access One SPECIFIC Website
No offense to your friends but I can't connect to freewebs.com, either. So I don't think it's likely you have a problem on your network. Methinks the site is just down, down, down... or gone, gone, gone.....

Re: Cannot Access One SPECIFIC Website
Raylo and sobeit666,
Thanks for checking the site out - I got a message a short while ago from someone else saying that they can get to my personal site, but not freewebs. Methinks something v. odd is afoot! I really hope it is the site that's down - otherwise it's going to be really complicated to fix, I can tell! Thanks again for your help! JLKS |

Re: Cannot Access One SPECIFIC Website
I have no problem accessing your original link to Freewebs at: http://members.freewebs.com/

I received a polite "it was our fault" email from Freewebs a little earlier, saying that something was up at their end with one of their servers but only some of their customers were affected. So it all has ended happily ever after (until the next time it all goes wrong). And you guys were great, even though there was nothing you could have done to help. And I've learned quite a lot about IPs and servers from reading some of your back-questions too :) Thanks again! JLKS |
