[SOLVED] Wireless AP Disappeared

I am new to IT and am learning as I go. The situation is we have a d-link dwl-7700ap and antena transmitting down the road to a new building to another 7700ap and antena. I hooked up a computer inside the new building and established comm. I then went back to start setting up the security on the aps. The first ap I secured is now not accessible from any computer on the network. I can not get to it through a browser or with the ap manager. I tried connecting directly to it and still I could not see it. I fear I may have to do a reset but am not sure how to do that either. The aps and antenas were installed by an outside company. I can still access the ap down the street with the new computer as I did not change any setting there. Thanks!

Re: Wireless AP Disappeared

No way to know with the limited information about the network and the application. I think you need to rewind your steps and start again with the security settings.

Re: Wireless AP Disappeared

Well, I pulled the ap off the building and took the cover off to look for the reset button d-link mentions in the product manual and found nothing. I put a call into the company that installed the aps and antenas so hopefully they can help me. Maybe I changed the ip address of the ap without knowing it and that is why I can not find it through my browser, although the ap manager from d-link should still find it. I definitely feel like I am in over my head on occasion doing this job but I don't want to turn down the chance to learn.

Re: Wireless AP Disappeared

I was just looking through the manual and I think I may have found where I went wrong. I implemented access control on the wireless IP and MAC ACL setting of the ap. Even though I only gave access to the computer in the new building, shouldn't the ap manager be able to at least see the ap from a different computer, or at least that one. Or did that setting now not allow the 2 aps to communicate with each other? I am just brain storming.

That kind of security frequently stops things in their tracks, I'd say you're at least on the right track.

Re: Wireless AP Disappeared

That was the problem. I had access control enabled for the LAN aspect of the filters and had entered only the new computer's mac address. This being the case, only that computer could communicate with the ap over the LAN so I had to connect the computer directly to the ap to access the ap manager through my browser and change the setting. On to the next learning experience.
