WRT54GS +3rd prty firmware?

I just got a linksys WRT54GS (speed bost) and I am woundering if anyone has updated their firmware to a non linksys one? I have version 7 (the newest for now) and I know there is a 3rd party firmware but so far i have no problems and I am afriad to update it. But this is just the second day i am useing it. I just want to get all i can out of it.
Also if i do this does it void the warrenty?

Any comments about this would be nice, but unless i run into problems i am going to stay with the linksys firmware for now, while im in college at least, maybe chang it when i get home and use it there.

Unless there's a specific reason to change, I recommend you stick with the factory firmware.
