What's the best free firewall

I run windows XP professional with SP2 and also use outlook express 2003. Here lately I have been having problems with the free version of zone alarm. Sometimes I have to disable it to launch the internet explorer and it also fails my send/recieve when checking my email, either I have te restart my computer or disable zonealarm. What's the best firewall out there that's free and easy to use, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You already have the best. You need to reset your settings or even remove and reinstall.

i have already heard of this problem from SP2...

make sure that XP's own lame *** firewall is off, it will cause all sorts of problems with other firewalls.

but, i agree 100% also, it doesnt get any better than ZoneAlarm...

if you are having problems with it, something else must be the cause.
(99.99% of problems with firewalls are caused by incorrect settings.)

Thanks all, I think I'll uninstall zone alarm and try it again. Does anyone have any info or links on how to configure zone alarm correctly so I don't get the same problems.
Thanks

I use sygate but zone alarm is good too. Why are you using IE though? Use firefox or maxthon.

Is firefox better than IE, I downloaded it but when I go to my online school campus firefox seems to run a little bit slower then IE on that site.

Firewall

Sygate is pretty good if you ask me. Never tried Zone-Alarm though (Unfortunately). If you're looking for a good substitute for IE, I'd suggest Opera . It is or Was one of the fastest acclaimed web browsers.

I'd suggest leaving IE on the computer as well though, as some sites still only work with IE installed.

If you need a good free anti-virus, I would most definitely suggest Panda Titanium Anti-Virus.. it kicks tush :-D

I use Sygate and it works well for me. Shields Up returned a scan on my machine as running in full steath mode, and I have had no problems with it. I am really fond of Avast as an antivirus. It found and cured things that Norton let get by and then let them run. Personal opinions.

kerio personal and outpost are some of the other firewalls out there if ya dont want to use zonealarm

http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_download.html
http://www.agnitum.com/download/outpostfree.html

as far as the browser wars.. i go for mozilla firefox even if its version 1

another thing, most routers and some modems have pre-installed firewalls
