Wi-Problem with Vista. (Limited Connectivity?)

My vista laptop has worked flawlessly with my home network (linksys WRT54G) for almost a year now.. But all of the sudden about two weeks ago I began to have huge problems..

I would be surfing the internet, then all of the sudden the page would time out. My internet status down in the right hand corner would go from (Local and Internet) pictured below:

Then once the page times out, it goes to (Limited Connectivity) pictured below:

Now, if i wait like a minute or so, the status will return to Local and Internet and work again.. But its really a pain in the ****. Like when I'm trying to download something, or I'm playing poker, this happens and I lose my download and poker! It really sucks..

And even though my internet is working right now, I still get this icon when I look at my network. Pictured Below.

I really really appreciate any advice that you guys can give me.. I really don't want to go out and buy a new router, cause this is my second WRT54G (I bricked the last one trying to update the firmware) and this router isn't more than a couple months old..

The couple things that I have tried that didnt help were:
1. disabling "auto tuning"
2. and disabling ipv6.
3. unplugged and plugged back in router and modem

Thanks so much guys, i really appreciate any feedback.

Re: Wi-Problem with Vista. (Limited Connectivity?)

Try changing the wireless channel, this sounds a lot like wireless interference.

Try resetting the router to factory defaults and reconfiguring it for your environment. I always suggest upgrading the firmware here as well, but you sound a bit reluctant to do that.

I think I actually found the problem haha.. I got on my router settings for the millionth time, and noticed that my router was set to only send out a wireless G signal.

And I'm pretty sure my mac-using brother did this when he was home.. So I changed it to do both Wireless b and g. and now its been working well..

That's one of the many reasons I suggest a factory reset and reconfiguration.

Re: [SOLVED] Wi-Problem with Vista. (Limited Connectivity?)

and i am 99% sure now that it isn't the router, because I just switched my linksys out with a Belkin and I'm still having the same problems..

Johnwill! Problem is back!

I still get limited connectivity after resetting the defaults on my linksys 5 times.. So i switched to a belkin router and am still having problems.. I've even changed the position of the router and still the same problem..

It has to be something with my laptop, cause the other wireless computer in my house has been working fine..

have any ideas?

Re: Johnwill! Problem is back!

This issue is fixed when you reset the router for a time?

I've merged your new thread, no need to start new ones for the same issue.

No, it just keeps doing the same thing it has been. As soon as I start to load a big page or download something, it goes to limited connectivity.

Re: Wi-Problem with Vista. (Limited Connectivity?)

When it's first connected, then again when you lose the connection, please post this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
