[SOLVED] going crazy
If anyone can help me with this, it would be much appreciated.
equipment: Mac G4 running Leopard Dell optiplex running XP Linksys wireless adapter (for internet ... connected to the dell) Netopia cayman modem/router (to network the computers) Ok, here we go. I have been going nuts trying to figure this out and haven't got much help. I am trying to network the two computers so that my Mac can use the internet connection from the dell. I have everything connected but the Dell does not show a default gateway to allow me access to the Netopia while the Mac does allow me access. In the network places it shows that it is connected and the ethernet port is blinking. Does this sound like it could be affecting my goal? Does anyone know where I can begin to accomplish this? Thank you in advance |

do a ipconfig /all on the Dell and post the results here. do the same (or whatever the equivalent of ipconfig is) on the Mac and post it here on the Dell, navigate to the Control Panel -> Network Connections, right-click the Local or Wireless connection (whichever you are trying to use) and click Properties. under This connection uses the following items: highlight Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click Properties. tell me which options are selected Last edited by muggy; 01-20-2008 at 03:43 AM. Re: going crazy
I am talking about ICS. The modem and the router that connect to the internet are downstairs so that is why i need to use the wireless internet connection from the dell. so i can avoid having one computer upstairs and one computer downstairs.
The tcp/ip settings are all set to obtain automatically. I just changed the local area connection to obtain auto and I got a default gateway to show up but it just caused another problem. When the router is turned on to connect the computers, it shuts down my wireless access to the internet. the ipconfig /all shows the following: ip routing enabled ... yes wins proxy enabled ... no local area connection: physical address ... 00-b0-d0-f2-b0-f7 dhcp enabled ...yes autoconfig enabled ... yes ip ... 192.168.1.2 subnet ... 255.255.255.0 default gatway ...192.168.1.254 dhcp server ... 192.168.1.254 dns server ... 192.168.1.254 the mac is showing the following: ip ...192.168.1.1 subnet ... 255.255.255.0 router ...192.168.1.254 dns ...192.168.1.254 hope this helps ... let me know if you need more Thanks |

Re: going crazy
Let's see ALL of the IPCONFIG.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: going crazy
Well, ICS is not running properly, or the wired connection would have an IP address of 192.168.0.1 and DHCP would be disabled.
Try disabling ICS, running the following repair, then configure ICS again. Post another IPCONFIG /ALL after you do that. TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog Reboot the machine.

Re: going crazy
wanted to let you know that i got it with a little outside help. I ran the network set up wizard which caused my ip address for my ethernet to change. I then got into the router that connects the computers and changed the default gateway, DHCP, and DNS for that so it wouldn't interfere with the wireless internet and would communicate with each other. Then I set a static IP for the Mac and I was in.
Thank you for your time and take care. |
