Wireless connection is ok but ethernet shows limited or no connectivity

Hi

This is my first post, please be gentle.

I have a fairly extensive home network (four pc's and a print server) but I've got one problem that has me scratching my head. I have once PC that doesn't seem to connect at 100 Mbps via ethernet. I get the limited or no connectivity icon in the system tray. The pc in question has a wireless card which works fine but ethernet will only work when I set the properties of the NIC to 10 mbps full duplex.

I've checked the following:
  1. Checked the cable (connects fine on my work laptop)
  2. Tried a PCI NIC with the same results
  3. reset tcp stacks and winsock as described elsewhere

I suppose I can manage with a 10 meg connection but I don't understand why it won't work at 100. Can anyone help out there?

Cheers
Sean

Re: Wireless connection is ok but ethernet shows limited or no connectivity

The wireless connection is obviously not OK if you have limited connectivity.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wireless connection is ok but ethernet shows limited or no connectivity

Hi Johnwill

Perhaps I have not explained my problem properly. The wireless is working fine - I just get this error when I plug in the ethernet cable. If it weren't for the number of walls in this house I probably wouldn't be writing here at all :)
