I am extremly stupid with electronics but ill describe my problem as best i can.
K i have windows vista with high speed dsl connected through a modem (comtrend CT-5071 is what it says on top of it so ya) but i want to be able to be on the internet and on Xbox live at the same time. Every time i want to get on Xbox live i gotta unplug the computers internet connection from the modem to plug my ethernet cord there from my Xbox. So i went to best buy and asked a person there how i can be on both the internet and Xbox live at the same time without spending to much money and the guy gave me a dynex 5 port 10/100 ethernet switch. So i took it home and i figured you just plug the dsl cord into the switch along with the cord going to the computer and the cord going to the Xbox..like a modem with more slots, but i cant connect to the internet or Xbox live this way. Believe me I looked at a ton of web sites trying to figure this out. Any help will be appreciated. |

Re: please help. 10/100 ethernet switch prob
What is the specific model of the Dynex switch? If it doesn't have auto-MDX ports, you need a crossover Ethernet cable from the modem/router to the switch.
Do you see connect lights on each end of the cables to the switch and on the other end at the modem/router and computer?
