Trouble opening Ports and Internet Lag
Hiya there
I'm new to this forum so erm...Sorry if I do anything wrong :) Well, as the title says I have problems opening ports and heavy internet lag For me, ports will just not open, now i'm told that it's because of this 'double hop' as my dad likes to call it, that we have. We have two internet connections, one for torrents and one for general use, but the general use one is on NTL and is supplied with a COAX connector which apparently needs to go into the modem. All ok up to there yeah? :) Well, my dad insists my brother has internet *Insert random family-related complaint* so I have to have a router there. Now, I thought of getting an access point router, but wireless doesn't work so well in our house because of the neighbour's connection that literally swamps our's and various other factors But I have heard about routers than turn into access points but they're still ethernet connected? I'd really appreciate any help on this matter, something like a hub might work but I havn't tried it. All the solutions I can think of is finding a router that has COAX connector compatability or some kind of access point router / hub...I can't think of any more sorry :) All I really want to do is open ports and things :) Right, erm..2nd problem :) We're currently getting this NTL Connection for 4MB, yet we're clearly not getting that at all, speedtest.net reports tells me nothing apart form the fact that it's fluxtuating heavily between about 200Kb/s and 4000Kb/s fairly regularly. Now my theory is that it's to do with someone nearby simply destroying the internet connection for me, but this might not be the case as...Let's put it this way, i've never had much of a fun run with NTL and it could just be because they're screwing me over and it's just a case that I have to downgrade my connection. However, as i'm not entirely sure what's causing it (might actually be the problem that's causing the other problem (grrr)) I came to here to ask your help Oh and erm, I don't actually expect someone to go digging deep for this 2nd problem, I was just posting it up there in case anyone had a similar problem as me, because it would be ludacris to want help for this evidently vague problem I'm sorry if I havn't posted anything that could help you, if you want me to just tell me and i'll get right on it :) Router: Netgear RP614v4 Modem: Average Black NTL Modem I can access my webserver for my router if needed My gratitude, Dread Last edited by Dread_Knight; 01-16-2008 at 11:58 AM. |
