local area connection Sent-Yes/Receive-No problem

I have an older IBM 2647 laptop and recently formatted my hard drive and reinstalled XP. Everything works fine beside my internet connection. my local area connection shows limited or no connectivity. the connection sems to sent packets but does not receive any.

.) connected another similar laptop to the internet and it worked (cable, router, etc.)
.) ethernet connection to laptop shows green light and only in the beginning a small flickering of the organe light, then nothing.
.) also tried my wireless card (which works on other laptop)...same error.
.) also tried an external smc 10/100 ethernet adapter, ...same problem.

can there be a malfunction of the laptop internal ethernet card?

no ideas at that point...

any advise, greatly appreciated.

Top suspect would be the wrong drivers, or simply missing the chipset drivers.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
