Re: home networking problem
I have a very similar problem. Just bought the NETGEAR WGR614. Both desktops (one wired, one wireless), a WebTV machine (wired), two laptops (wireless), and two handhelds (wireless) connect to the Internet just fine through the router, but networking only works between the wired computer and one laptop. And even that doesn't work properly -- that is, not all the time.
The machines don't recognize each other, can't share printers or files (I assume because the machines don't recognize each other). I called NETGEAR and pretty much couldn't understand (accent) anything the tech said, and he didn't understand me, either. I used to use (and still have, just not hooked up while I try cable and netgear) DSL through phone company with their wireless. Everything worked perfectly as far as networking went, but the entire Internet connection went on and off like a light bulb. So I got cable access and bought the NetGear router, but just can't get home networking to work properly. Any ideas? Both desktops work with WinXP SP2 (Home editions), one laptop is WinXP Professional SP2, and one laptop is WinXP home SP2 Please help. It's driving me up a wall. NS |

Re: home networking problem
Even though it appears you're having the same problem, please start a new thread when you have a new issue. It's very difficult to keep two problems straight and who's working on what in a single thread.
I've created a new thread for your issue here. Note: You will need to post complete details of your configuration and your specific issue in this new thread for us to help you. Thanks for your cooperation.

Re: home networking problem
Can you PING all the computers by name from the other computers? That's the first step, and you need to get that working before you can go any farther.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: PING <computer_name> ...where <computer_name> is the name of the remote computers you're trying to connect to.
