IP changed ???

I have a router, my laptop IP 192.168.1.1, my desktop is 192.168.0.1, yesterday my husband was on the IE using this Mozilla Foxfire, the computer froze up and after that he was unable to connect to the IE on the desktop. Today I have the desktop connected to the router through my modeum (satellite) and my laptop works fine, gut the IP on the desktop has changed. All three tech support areas Best Buy Geeks, Router, and HP say that the IP has changed due to a software download. I have gone into the cmd center and have had the Hughes Net people (satellite IE Co), and the Router people ping me, it is not finding my computer because the IP has changed. They all say it is due to the software download, that one must go into the networking in the control panel and change the IP back to the original, and that is what is happening. I hope you are able to help me, I do not mind paying for knowledge, but they are not willing to share that with me incase it happens again and I am not willing to pay for it twice incase it should happen again.
I have gone to the cmd and it comes up with a whole different IP, I have gone to networking in cpanel and put in the right info and also have tried auto find IP, I have gone to the tools-connections-and put that on auto and proxy and still I am getting a different IP.
I have reformatted my computer and tried to wipe the hard drive, but still nothing.
If you are able plz help.

Re: IP changed ???

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model of the router.
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Make and model of your computer.
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.

Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

On any problem computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

Tried this and it did not work.
So I reformatted my computer once again, (plug sequence) my desktop into the router and then the router into the modem, and uninstalled the antivirus (norton) and did not reinstall my antivirus, (NOD) then all works well, but as soon as I download my antivirus then the IE is unattainable. When I go into do a repair it tells me it unsuccessful.

I am going crazy with this, on day 7.

Re: IP changed ???

If you have two AV products, Norton and NOD running, that will cause all sorts of issues. Pick one.

Re: IP changed ???

I installed and uninstalled all three, one at a time, so only one was downloaded onto my computer at a time. Each time I installed the IE was unattainable, then as soon as I had no antivirus on my computer, IE was fine. I must be doing something wrong, I have never had a router before and perhaps should purchase a better more user friendly one.

Re: IP changed ???

I can't imagine the router having anything to do with this issue.

Re: IP changed ???

i'd try using AVG anti-virus. It's free and in my experience it doesn't have the overbearing tendencies that Norton and McAffe are prone to. Good Luck.
