Internet keeps hanging

My internet seems to have a strange problem.

It works fine (low pings / fast downloads) for a while and then every 30 or 40 mins it seems to "hang", connection stops for 20 seconds or so then resumes fine.

During these period i can ping the router, but (obviously) not anything outside my network.

Anyone had a problem like this? it seems to happen every 30 mins or so, for approx 15 -20 seconds. Its not a particular bad problem but it is annoying when playing strategy games, and getting kicked out due to a quick disconnect.

I'd be looking at the modem, the ISP, or possibly the router's firmware needs an upgrade?
