need help with new router
Hello!
I have a problem with connecting to the internet and I hope that you can help me. I just bought a new router (SMC WBR14S-N2) and when I connect two PCs everything works fine. I use the USB adaptor that I got with the router on the client PC. Now I'd like to connect the third computer (that is a laptop). This laptop has a wireless card inside but when I try to connect, it says that it can't configure. I'm wondering if this router can somehow work with the card that is in the laptop or do I have to buy another SMC USB adaptor for the laptop? Maybe I should mention that before this I used some other router (SMC also, but different type) and I connected one PC by antena, but the laptop worked with that card. I hope I was clear enough so that you know what the problem is, because I dont know much about this stuff... :( Thank you! |

Re: need help with new router
There should be no issue in connecting your laptop to that router. Are you sure the router is not configured for 802.11n only? That's one possibility that would prevent you getting a connection.

Re: need help with new router
Thank you for your reply :)
I managed to connect the laptop. The only think that seem strange to me now is that when I connect the laptop it says that "windows couldn't find a certificate to connect me to prefered network" but it connects anyway... Any idea why is this happening or shall I just ignore it? |

Re: need help with new router
You must have some security provision in place. Does this happen in IE, or when the wireless network is connecting?

Re: need help with new router
This happens when I'm connecting to the internet. I think it has nothing to do with IE. My SMC network is pasword protected (WPA), but I think that it shouldn't be the case either because the same thing happens also if the network is unsecured.

Re: need help with new router
OK, this is an IE issue I would think.
Open IE, Tools, Internet Options, and select the Security tab. Click the Reset all zones to default level button. Select the Privacy tag. Click the Default button.

Re: need help with new router
Ok, I did exactly what you told me to do, but it's still the same. The message about the certificate shows when I establish the connection and also meanwhile sometimes. But it doesn't affect my connection.

Re: need help with new router
Well, I have another problem with my connection, and I'll post it here...
The thing is, that let's say 2 times a day, I loose my connection. It still looks as that I have it but I can't access internet. All three computers that are connected to router loose the connection at the same time. And I've noticed that also the telephone doesn't work when this happens. MSN messenger troubleshooter tells me that there is a problem with DNS. If I look at the router settings there is no DNS number (it shows DNS: 0.0.0.0). I can't get the connection back (I tried restarting router, computer, turned off firewall...). And after I give up, the connection comes back by itself, and the phone also... (after half an hour or one hour usually) Before I had some other router that never caused me this sort of problems. Do you maybe know what could be causing this problem and how can I solve it? |

Re: need help with new router
Well, if the thing that changed is the router, and now you have this issue, that's where I'd start.
For the certificate issue, look in the Event logs and see if you see any information that might help track it down.
