Pulling my grey hair out
I have a computer which is linked to a wireless router via an ethernet cable.
The ethernet light was steady orange,I thought it was not working so installed a new network card. Got a green light but still cannot connect to internet.I can't even access the router 192.168.*.* Works fine on other computers and the wireless works no problem with my laptop. Tried 2 different cables but nothing works Help Thanks Leighton |

Re: Pulling my grey hair out
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Make and exact model of the broadband modem. Make and exact model of the router. Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make and model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. On any problem computer, I'd also like to see this: Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Pulling my grey hair out
The Zoom is already a wireless router, and I suspect it's using the same base address as the Netgear.
Connect the cable directly to the Zoom modem and do the IPCONFIG /ALL again. If the Default Gateway Address is 192.168.0.1, you'll have to change the Netgear's base address to something else, say 192.168.1.1.

Re: Pulling my grey hair out
No John
The zoom Wireless router has the address 10.0.0.2 This router is in a friends house. The netgear router is in my house I was trying to get the computer to see any router by ethernet and as we can see the ping results are ok So the ipconfig would be the same if I took it up to the zoom modem I assume ? Thanks for your time Leighton |

Re: Pulling my grey hair out
OK, so you can't connect to anything with the Ethernet connection for the machine? I guess I'm a bit confused here.
Please connect the computer directly to the Zoom router and do this. Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Pulling my grey hair out
Exactly John
I can connect to the zoom router and the netgear router wirelessly but not with the ethernet on the same machine with the 2 routers. Yet when I ping the router address it comes back as no packets dropped and 4 sent and 4 recieved. This is all over my head, you guys seem much more clued up than me ! Thanks Leighton |

Re: Pulling my grey hair out
You are PINGING the router with the wireless disabled?
You mention that one router is at a friends house, how is that possible if it's being used in your network. I'm still confused...

Re: Pulling my grey hair out
Ok John
I can ping the router through the ethernet cable.A laptop connects to both wireless routers at his house (Zoom) and t mine (Netgear) I have brought his computer down to my house to try it on my router (Netgear) The same problem exists However when I connect the ethernet cable either on the zoom router (At his house) or the netgear(in my house) it will not connect However I pinged the router through the ethernet cable with no problems I connected his machine to my router with an ethernet cable (I have tried 2) and it still won't connect to the internet. The ip address of my router is 192,168,0,1 (Netgear) His zoom modem is 10,0,0,2 If you type these into the explorer bar nothing happens it just comes back with unable to find page (Which is the error on any page) Is that better ? I am a bit scattergun with my decriptions I apologise,I really appreciate your help as he is a good friend of mine and I would like to get it sorted out for him Thanks Leighton |

Re: Pulling my grey hair out
Let's debug one configuration at a time. That's the reason we're not making any progress!
You have a known good Internet connection through your router, and his machine can't connect, right? If so, let's debug that first.
