[SOLVED] Unable to find wireless network?

I have just bought myself a new router (Linksys WAG325N), and a new PCI wireless adapter (TrendNet TEW-623PI) which are both N draft as i was wanting to speed up my wireless network.

The problem i'm having is that after setting up my router and installing all the software and drivers for the PCI adapter, i am unable to pick up my wireless network from the adapter.

I can pick up the signal with a seperate USB adapter fine, but the PCI card just dosen't want to find the network.

Any suggestions?

With the PCI card installed, let's see this.

Start, Run, devmgmt.msc

Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?


Also, let's see this.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

By the way i'm using an ethernet cable to connect to the internet at the moment so that's why its included in the above.

Well, I see the wireless adapter, so Windows at least recognizes it.

Let's do this, but I don't think it's going to cure it.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.


Are you using Windows WZC to manage the wireless connection or the TrendNet wireless client? I'd try the other one to see if you have any change in behavior.

I've tried both WZC and Trendnet's wireless client to try and connect. Both with the same results.

Things have gone from bad to worst just now as i now cant even boot when i've got the pci adapter plugged in; it just freezes when it gets to the windows logo. Really dont know what to do now!

That sounds like driver issues. If Trendnet can't get you working drivers, I'd send the thing back.

Just a quick update, your right about the driver thing, i updated the driver from a 3rd party site (trendnet didn't even have it on their own website!) and disabled network security and it detected the signal and connected.

I then just enabled WPA2-PSK on the router and updated WZC so it could accept the above security and all is fine for now! Why the hell has wireless neteorking got to be so fustrating lol!
