using DD-WRT on WRT300N as WAP

ok. So my adventure with the WRT54G wasn't very fun.

I have a WRT300N router that I flashed with DD-WRT and it works.

But I need to use the WRT300N to connect wirelessly to my WRT54GS that is connected to the cable modem downstairs.

I've searched here and google, and cannot find what I'm looking for.

Here is how I want it setup.

Re: using DD-WRT on WRT300N as WAP

DD-WRT does offer bridge/AP functionality, so this should work. Did you look here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Bridge

Re: using DD-WRT on WRT300N as WAP

Actually johnwill, yes. I tried that last night and it worked wonderfully. But when I restarted my computer that is connected to it, it wouldn't work any longer. I backed up the router settings and still no luck.

Re: using DD-WRT on WRT300N as WAP

Well, what "doesn't work"?

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: using DD-WRT on WRT300N as WAP

what i meant by that it doesn't work, is that when I rebooted my main computer (which is the only one connected to it currently), I lost the connection. I restored the backup file from the router, and still had the same problem.

Thanks for your help.

Which is the "main" computer in your picture? What's it connected to?

Re: using DD-WRT on WRT300N as WAP

the main is 'desktop 1' which is connected to the wrt300n. the 300n is the router that i put dd-wrt on. It was working great (with the exception of BF2 not being able to connect to the internet, even though I could browse in IE and FF). But one the main was rebooted. I was unable to get any connection.

Re: using DD-WRT on WRT300N as WAP

Also. I try connecting to the 300n via 192.168.1.2 which is what I set the IP of it to, and I cannot connect to it. I tried in both IE and FF. I even tried 192.168.1.1 and that didn't work either. 192.168.1.1 is the IP of the main router downstairs.

Re: using DD-WRT on WRT300N as WAP

I'd reset the WRT-300N to defaults and try again. If you can't connect to it, something got hosed in the configuration.

Re: using DD-WRT on WRT300N as WAP

Johnwill...

I plugged the router into my laptop.
192.168.1.1
The settings were reset due to me pressing the reset button on the back of the unit, but I was able to get into the router, let it bridge, and I was able to connect to the internet using the router on my laptop.

I plug it into the main...

Default Gateway:_______________________ Blank.

so... The computer is now the problem. Not the device. Me thinks.

While plugged into the MAIN, let's see this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
