[SOLVED] NEED HELP trying to connect to wireless network!

I have 2 Dell laptops; an Inspirion 8600 with Pro/Wireless 2200BG adapter, and XPS M1210 with Pro/Wireless 3945ABG. My XPS can connect to the wireless network and works fine, but the Inspirion does not??? When the inspirion connects it is either a "low" connection or a "good" connection, and in both cases the internet never works (websites won't load up). The XPS connects just fine and the internet works. Why is that?? What can I do to fix this problem with my Inspirion???

Did you update the drivers on the 8600 with the latest ones from Dell? Have you tried more than one wireless network?

Please post this with it "connected" to a wireless network.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

I haven't tried updating the driver, if i'm remembering correctly I don't think there was an updated driver on Dell's website. I've tried connecting to other networks (with low connectivity) and it still doesn't work. A long time ago it used to work on my college's network but last i remember it didn't work well when i used it in the library...

Well, there's one obvious issue. You have DHCP disabled.

Select Start > Settings > Network Connections.
  • Double-click the Connection icon of the connection you wish to modify to open the Local Area Connection Status window.
  • Click the Properties button to open the Local Area Connection Properties window.
  • Click to highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  • Click the Properties button to open the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
  • TCP/IP Properties window, IP Address tab
  • Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
  • Select Obtain DNS server address automatically.
  • Click OK to return to the Local Area Connection Properties window.
  • Click OK to return to the Network Connections window.
