Buffalo WBMR-G125 Problems

I'm not sure if this is in the right thread actually, so feel free to move it if necessary.

I'm having no luck whatsoever setting this router up, but I should point out that wireless networking is totally alien to me.

I've got a desktop computer running Windows XP, and a BT Voyager 105 USB ADSL Modem (as supplied by my ISP, UK Online).

I go through the setup process for the router and insert the DSL line into the router and connect it to my computer using the ethernet cable the way it says, but then I get to a bit where I'm supposed to have six green lights on the front of the router, but the 'SECURITY' and 'INTERNET' lights remain unlit.

I've also somehow ended up with a new icon near the clock on my desktop, and when I hover my mouse over it, it says, 'Adapter can not be found,' so I don't know if it's simply a case of the device not being recognised.

In any event, am I supposed to connect the Voyager modem to the router somehow? Or can I do without it altogether?

I really don't have a clue what to do here, so any help would be appreciated.

Re: Buffalo WBMR-G125 Problems

The Voyager modem is not part of the setup.

If you have a name/password associated with the ADSL account, you need to access the web based configuration of the router and enter that to get it to connect to the ADSL service. What does the ISP say about compatibility of this router with their service? How about Buffalo tech support?

Re: Buffalo WBMR-G125 Problems

My ISP recommends that I use one particular brand of router, which naturally I would have to buy from them.

I was holding off calling the Buffalo support line as a last resort, as it seems to be a national rate call, and also I didn't know if maybe I was just missing something obvious.

If I skip the step where it says I need to have all the lights on, the next part says I apparently need to enter my ISP username and password, but when I try to do that, it says my password should have an underscore in it - which it doesn't. Or is this some other username/password combination I need to know?

I can't imagine a requirement that the password have an underscore! Can you take a screen shot of that error?

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to TSG, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
