Wireless problems
Ive been having a wireless problem on my laptop for a while know, the only way to connect to the internet is to directly connect it with a ethernet cord if it try to use the built in wireless card it will not read any connections. I also tried using a 2wire usb adapter to connect and that did nothing it still had the same problems. I want it to be able to connect wirelessly so i can use it as an actual laptop not as a desktop and not have it be stationary. I also have another problem with my desktop computer, it will not read any internet connection. I have tried to connect it by using the usb adapter and the ethernet cord also and nothing. It also will not read the modem when i try to connect it. I have 2 laptops and the desktop on my connection. The desktop never works the laptop i was just talking about has problems but the other laptop works perfectly fine. Whats wrong with it????

Re: Wireless problems
Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.
Make and model of the broadband modem. Make and model of the router. Connection type, wired or wireless. If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2) Make/model of your computer. Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP2, Vista, etc. Also, please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages. On any problem computer, I'd also like to see this: Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Wireless problems
Let's work on one at a time. The desktop sounds like it has no network hardware recognized by Windows.
Start, Run, devmgmt.msc Under Network adapters, please tell me all the devices listed. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

Re: Wireless problems
You are missing the drivers for a bunch of stuff. You need to install the chipset drivers, as well as the network drivers. Go to the Gateway site and download the stuff for your machine. You may need to write it to a CD-R/RW disk to move it over to the desktop.

Re: Wireless problems
You need the chipset and network drivers for your machine. Their support should be able to direct you to the correct ones for your machine.

Re: Wireless problems
Did you even bother to go to the Gateway WEB Site?
Here's the page for all the downloads: http://support.gateway.com/support/d...=pn¶m=4356

Re: Wireless problems
With the laptop, did you go to the Gateway site and download the latest wireless drivers? The Intel 2200BG chipset is infamous for issues with older drivers.

Re: Wireless problems
I suppose it's possible the adapter is defective, hard to say without looking. Did you resolve all the errors in Device Manager? How is the wireless card listed there now? What does Gateway tech support say?
