Wireless home network
New here. Please help if you can.
I have an "old" Belkin wireless router, 11b fed by Road Runner cable. The router box is wired to the main computer and, according to the display, is running at 100mbps. On a wireless XP laptop the display is running at 11mbps which, I believe, is the correct output for this router. When the laptop is downloading "stuff", the main computer runs the internet VERY slow (still shows 100 mbps) for basic surfing. Is this something upgrading the router will fix or is it a set-up problem? If a new router is needed, should I go to a G or N? Forgive any wrong jargon used, I'm not that computer literate. All advice appreciated! |

Re: Wireless home network
Have you updated the router to the latest firmware available? How about resetting it to factory defaults and reconfiguring it? Are you using P2P applications to download with the laptop? If so, that's probably what's choking the router.
