Connecting Work and Home networks
Hi,
What would be the easirst way to connect home and work networks. I have VPN on my home Router but work doesnt. Is there any other way to connect them? I would need to use files from both places and be able to print from home to my work printer. Is there any software VPN or cheap hardware VPN available ... if that indeed is the answer. Thanks |

That really looks the part ... seems that even the free version would do for me. But didnt quite understand that last part
Run as a Windows System Service - Yes An option to run the Hamachi client as a system service. This is typically needed when running Hamachi on servers or in setups involving Windows domain authentication. Maybe I have understood the VPN wrong. I thought you only need VPN on routers at both sides and everything beyond the routers would be accessible both sides. Do I need to install this program to every computer on my network? Network looks a bit like this Home comp1 - comp2 Work comp1 - comp2 - server - printer How would I go about installing the VPN? Home side router has VPN already ... do I still use that? |

Re: Connecting Work and Home networks
To be honest I have not used it myself but have used the logmein remote system so I can connect to my office pc from home and from my office pc to home.
I think if you install it on one machine in the office and one at home all machines should be connected. All you need to do is install the software it configures itself and connections are made via a third party (logmein) No need to change your firewall or anything else. The help manuals on the site look quite easy(under Support & FAQ) In the user manual it says Quote "Connecting LAN segments via a single Hamachi computer on each LAN" so yes just one machine at each end. Let us know how you get on if you decide to give it a try. |
