[SOLVED] problem with connectivity for wireless router
I have a belkin wireless G model number F5D7230-4 router with network card that i installed in a desktop HP computer with xp home, svc pack 2. I am having problems getting it to connect to the router. It is saying that I have limited or no connectivity and when i try and repair the connection, it says it is unable acquire the network address. I called tech support for belkin and unfortunately there was a language barrier. The person ran me thru simple tasks of disabling firewalls, antivirus, which didn't work. I went to the belkin homepage on the computer that is connected to the internet via hardwire, gave him my IP address, and disabled the protection and turbo. Is anyone aware of turning off scripting for firewalls??? He told me I had to contact microsoft to have them do it for me, and to call back. Any suggestions would most definitely be welcome. I do not like being placed on hold for 30 minutes to speak to someone that keeps telling me i have to call back, call back, call back......
Thank you very much techies |

Re: problem with connectivity for wireless router
Sounds kind of like your router is using static routing (no DHCP). First disable any router encryption and make sure your router has DHCP enabled on it.
If possible, try hardwiring the troubled computer to the router to isolate if it is a wireless problem.

Re: problem with connectivity for wireless router
Reset the router to factory defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds with power on.
When the computer is completely booted, let's see this. Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt: Type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Paste the results in a message here. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: problem with connectivity for wireless router
What I ended up doing was reset factory settings on the router, as well as a clean install of the OS on the wireless computer. Took all of 10 minutes. I saw that piece of advice in one of the threads. So in a roundabout way I was assisted. Thanks for the quick responses. It was appreciated.
